We are celebrating TEN YEARS of Electric Vardo with great performances. DJ Amar is happy to share this line up with you!
She has performed across the country at festivals such as Art of the
Belly, Tribal Fest, Elevation, Tribal Massive, and Rakkasah, both as a
soloist and as part of group projects working with other fusion
dancers, like Sera Solstice, Sharon Kihara, and Ebony Qualls. She is a
current core member and principal dancer of Solstice Tribe, directed
by Sera Solstice.
As a soloist, Serena is known for her boundless energy, precise
technique, and commanding stage presence. A lover of unpredictable
movement, her work flows seamlessly from African to salsa, bellydance
to ballet, and hip hop to modern. Serena is ready to bring some
Afropop swagger to the Electric Vardo Tribal Fest After Party in the
form of a duet with Ebony.
For over 10 years, Ebony has been teaching and performing both
traditional raqs sharqi and her own dynamic fusion belly dance style.
Ebony has taught and performed throughout Asia, Canada, Europe and the
United States. She has toured internationally with the world famous
Bellydance Superstars and Bellydance Evolution and has performed in
and choreographed for Zoe Jakes’ House of Tarot. Ebony has performed
onstage with Grammy nominated band Thievery Corporation, with
electronic musician and performance artist Peaches, and with
Turkish/Electronic fusion recording artist Oojami.
She is also a founding instructor of Sahara Dance – Washington DC’s
Center for Middle Eastern Dance.
Kaeshi Chai is a world-fusion bellydancer who co-founded the professional dance companyBellyqueen and PURE (Public Urban Ritual Experiment), an international community of artists who create positive change through dance and music. Kaeshi has performed and taught internationally, and is an alumni member of the Bellydance Superstars, and Jillina’sBellydance Evolution. She curates the weekly Djam NYC event showcasing dancers and musicians, and teaches at the Bellyqueen School of Dance and Steps on Broadway. Her mission is to develop bellydance as a stage art and explore it’s powerful, healing properties.
Since beginning her training in 1981, Sabrina Fox has been a dedicated student of dance. She has studied – and is continuing her education in – various styles such as Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, West African, Modern, American Tribal Style Bellydance, and Tribal Fusion Bellydance.
Leon Mancilla is a performer at his core. After witnessing his set at Tribal Trove in San Diego, Amar immediately decided to grab him for the Tribal Fest Afterparty. Leon’s exuberance for life and dance shine through every move he makes.
Verbatim and Amar go WAAAAAAYYYY back. They’ve made regular appearances at the Tribal Fest Afterparty since it’s start, and we’re excited to have them back as part of the Electric Vardo 10 year celebration.
Finally, the man himself. Amar has been with Electric Vardo since its beginnings. He continues to use it as a platform to further the knowledge of world music and provide a way to elevate belly dance in all of its forms. Come find him at Tribal Fest and say hello!
